Theory Test
The Theory Test can be taken at many Theory Test Centers throughout the UK. For a list of these please check out the DSA Web Page. The Theory Test consists of 50 multiple choice questions from which you must achieve at least 43 correct answers. The test is conducted on a computer with a touch sensitive screen and your result is given immediately at the end of the test. The Hazard Perception Test consists of 14 video clips in which are 15 potential hazards. The test measures the time taken to spot these hazards and click a mouse button. You must present, at the time of test, your Provisional Licence and Photographic Evidence of Identity. Failure to do so will result in the test being cancelled with the loss of your test fee. The test is based on the information contained in several sources. These are:- The Highway Code The Driving Manual Know your Traffic Signs The Driving Test These books are widely available, being authored by the DSA and published by The Stationery Office. Beware of similar sounding titles as they may not contain all the information on which you may be tested. There is also a book containing the full authentic question bank. This is titled "The Official Theory Test for Cars and Motorcycles", also authored by the DSA and published by The Stationery Office. This contains all the questions together with the correct answers and explanations. If you prefer to learn by using your computer we strongly recommend that you purchase a CD Rom entitled "Driving Test Success". This is produced by Focus Multimedia and contains all the official questions, presented in both learning and testing formats. It is available in "Standard" and "De Luxe " versions and is very competitively priced at around the same price as the Official Theory Test book. This can also be purchased from our instructors who normally keep copies for their clients. This will also make studying for the Theory Test a much more pleasurable experience.
