What Should You Consider Before Booking an Intensive Driving Course?

There are numerous things you need to consider before choosing which intensive driving course is right for you. It is important to opt for a course that suits you as an individual to, as choosing the wrong course can make the process of learning to drive, or improving upon on any existing driving skills, more difficult than it needs to be.

Factors that will affect your choice of course include;

  • Your Budget

The DVSA recommends 40 hours of tuition with a fully qualified driving instructor, as well as 20 hours independent practice before a student can be considered ready to take their driving test. With the average price of a driving lesson currently at £25 per hour – more if you are taking automatic driving lessons – the cost of getting to test standard is substantial.
With that in mind, it is important to pick a driving course that is within your budget.

  • Your Availability

Intensive driving lessons are very successful and have high pass rates, but by the very nature of the course this dictates that you need to have the time available to fulfil the hours of the course.

  • Your Previous Driving Experience (if any)

It is logical to suppose that a learner driver who has had lessons in the past may need less hours to attain driving test level proficiency than a complete beginner. That is why we give some guidance. Every person is different, and factors such as clutch control, coordination, ability to master new practical skills and confidence levels will always vary from person to person. Experienced learner drivers who are close to test standard, often require a few intensive driving lessons to prepare for their driving test, while new learner drivers taking their first driving lessons, tend to require one of our longer 42hr+ driving courses.

  • Preferred Learning Style

To get the most out of your intensive driving lessons, it is beneficial to recognize how you learn best and then choose your lessons based on your individual learning style. If you need to constantly repeat a task over and over again to grasp the concept, spending 6 hours a day on an intensive driving course should suit you really well.

What Are The Different Types Of Intensive Driving Courses Available?

Now you have assessed your available budget, how much time you can dedicate to learning to drive and taken into account your preferred learning style, you can now begin to consider which course is right for you.
